A courtesy visit to the Department of Refugee Services

Regional Intra Health initiative-Africa (RIHI-AFRICA) Acting Chairman, CEO and Program Coordinator paid a courtesy visit to the Department of Refugee Services office in Nairobi. The Deputy Commissioner welcomed the team and discussed the areas where RIHI-AFRICA can contribute its expertise in health. The meeting highlighted the importance of collaboration between RIHI-AFRICA and the Department of Refugee Affairs to address the healthcare needs of refugees and host communities effectively. The Deputy Commissioner of Refugee Affairs Kenya expressed appreciation for RIHI-AFRICA’s willingness to support healthcare services and acknowledged the challenges faced by the government in providing adequate healthcare, particularly in remote areas.

The meeting also explored the potential for capacity building initiatives, where RIHI-AFRICA can provide training and mentorship to local healthcare professionals.

Discussion Points; -

The meeting discussed the specific areas where RIHI-AFRICA can contribute its expertise, including health education, health screenings, and preventive healthcare services.

The importance of working closely with the Department of Refugee Affairs to align efforts with their priorities and needs was emphasized.

The Deputy Commissioner stated that the timing of RIHI-AFRICA was actually “A God sent” The challenges in health disparities are real and the realities of the global economic constraints in relation to inadequate healthcare service delivery, especially in remote areas, explains the need for strong partnership to address the gaps. The Deputy Commissioner offered to partner with RIHI-AFRICA and support its mission.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of collaboration between government agencies and non-governmental organizations to effectively address healthcare challenges.

The potential for RIHI-AFRICA to provide training and mentorship to the local healthcare professionals was discussed, with the aim of enhancing skills and knowledge and creating a sustainable healthcare system.
