RIHI-Africa organized an event aimed at raising awareness about the importance of hand hygiene among schoolchildren. The initiative was part of our broader efforts to promote hygiene and prevent illness in schools.
At the beginning of the school year, we observed that nearly 90% of the children were affected by the flu. The rapid spread of illness was exacerbated by a lack of proper hygiene awareness campaigns within schools. Recognizing the urgent need to address this issue, we initiated a handwashing promotion campaign in Garissa County.
We conducted informative sessions to educate children about the importance of handwashing and proper hygiene practices.
Practical demonstrations were held to teach the correct techniques for effective handwashing.
The event successfully increased awareness about hand hygiene and its critical role in preventing the spread of illness. By involving the children in interactive and practical sessions, we ensured that the knowledge imparted was both engaging and impactful. The establishment of handwashing corners has provided the necessary infrastructure to support ongoing hygiene practices in schools.
We plan to expand this initiative to more schools within Garissa County and beyond, continuously monitoring its effectiveness and making improvements as needed. Our goal is to create a sustainable culture of hygiene and health awareness among schoolchildren, ultimately leading to healthier school environments.
